Formerly a standard reflection assignment, this year done in the form of a letter to the book’s author. Different audience/purpose than reflection. About half students want their letters mailed to him, @ProfessorElyse is putting them together. #LWIOneDay2020

Students this year formed own book club to discuss, and class debrief involved small group discussions to draw out quieter students, larger group debrief, and a guest speaker. #LWIOneDay2020
Guest speaker was white, clean cut, in early 30s. Students assumed when they saw him that he was a lawyer, rather than someone who had served time in both state and federal prison. Great discussion about assumptions. #LWIOneDay2020
acknowledged some students are less enthusiastic but most have powerful positive reactions, meaningful for their personal and legal growth. #LWIOneDay2020
Students commonly get involve led with clemency work after reading Jailhouse Lawyers. Students also identify other ways they want to make the legal system better #LWIOneDay2020
