Video from @sfbos mtg where @DeanPreston singles out @TheMarinaTimes to not receive tax funding, saying they are "fact free" & equivalent to Breitbart News.

Here's a thread about Dean's efforts at silencing those critical of him recently. 1/X https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=youtu.be&v=-fyQpxXNOH0&fbclid=IwAR0fKPwqfO5DLUIf68yc73NbHHOi46XviGGchFsjb6rYQszHWYqLbQfv1S8&app=desktop#dialog
First, let's not pretend the Marina Times is worthy of a Pulitzer, but they do provide worthwhile reporting. They reported on the City Hall corruption scandal (Nuru, Kelly, etc.) long before the feds were involved or @sfchronicle were reporting. 2/X https://www.marinatimes.com/2020/07/friends-with-community-benefits/
It's a big leap to equate them to Breitbart News. They've had @GavinNewsom @SupStefani @AaronPeskin among their columnists & were extremely vocal about supporting Biden.

Just because they're outside Dean's Democratic Socialist party lines, doesn't make them Breitbart. 3/X
Dean (& his supporters) have been silencing his critics, especially in the Haight where problems are most visible. 6 wks ago, his supporters were already targeting the Marina Times' advertisers to pull support after a critical article about Dean. 4/X https://twitter.com/CommonSense415_/status/1319381104437018624
Further, his supporters run an Upper Haight Facebook group w/ 7,000+ members, but they banned posts criticizing Dean or showing any health/crime issues surrounding the SSS tent site that Dean advocated for. 5/X https://twitter.com/CommonSense415_/status/1323688654770823168
Dean also receives preferential coverage from many outlets where he has pull. For example, @Hoodline's beat reporter for the Upper Haight (and District 5's homelessness) is an employee of @christinevans, who is one of Dean's biggest boosters. 6/X https://twitter.com/CommonSense415_/status/1284359806904496128
Or he feeds stories to publications like Mission Local. A couple random, wacky Twitter accounts trolling Dean was deemed newsworthy, which certainly helped garner some pre-election sympathy. Pretty sure more trolls attack other SF politicos, though. 7/X https://twitter.com/EskSF/status/1312149917226266626
Perhaps no outlet is more famous than @48hills for biased reporting. Their "news" coverage about Dean reads more like a fan page, & they just so happened to declare him Best Politician in SF during election year. But @TheMarinaTimes is the real threat. 8/X https://48hills.org/tag/dean-preston/
Dean's community mtgs in the Haight only allow certain familiar faces to ask softball/compliment questions (eg, @christinevans). When forced to answer debate questions from a 5-neighborhood consortium, Dean declared them "fear mongers" & dodged the Qs. 9/X https://twitter.com/WillyNaaktgebo1/status/1321475283644416001
In conclusion, Dean (& his supporters) have a pattern of silencing critics and the @sfbos should not support censorship just b/c one particular outlet criticizes Dean. Free journalism and public discourse should not be stifled. 10/10 https://www.marinatimes.com/2020/10/horror-in-the-haight/
