We were notified yesterday that our insurance coverage ends Jan 21, 2021.

Lee was president of his company before he died. They want to continue COBRA-like coverage for our family, but @BCBSNC won’t allow it beyond the 18 months allowable in NC’s mini-COBRA law.
The CARES Act allows COBRA recipients to stay on their plans until two months after the national emergency ends, regardless of when they are set to end.

In NC, no such provision has been set for mini-COBRA. We get no safeguards.
@NC_Governor
I can understand not wanting to place undue burden on small businesses, but Lee’s company would like to continue to have us covered.

@BlueCrossNC won’t allow it, and they cite state law (which says BCBS of NC doesn’t have to extend coverage, not that they aren’t allowed to).
We have a lot of medical needs. Some are hypothyroidism, cerebral palsy, HIV, epilepsy, autism, rheumatoid arthritis, spinal cord injuries, PTSD, hypertension, ADHD, depression, anxiety, and sickle cell trait.

We need good health insurance.

I need time to explore options.
Lee is dead.

His company wants to support us and keep the family of their former president on their health insurance.

@BlueCrossNC says no, in the midst of a pandemic.

Because the company is small, we don’t get 36 months on COBRA (the usual for widows) or extension coverage.
So,
@NC_Governor, can anyone in your office help?

@BlueCrossNC, can you be more humane than this?

And @JoeBiden @Transition46, please hurry in your work to be prepared Jan 20, because we need you ready to go.

We were happy. Life is harder now. Please, help.
P.S. Thanks, Obama.

Truly.

Without the ACA, we’d have no chance at coverage with all our pre-existing conditions. Because of ACA, we have options.

So thank you, @BarackObama, for this gift. (And hi 🙋🏼‍♀️ @MichelleObama — I love you so dang much.)
Yes, I’m aware of the marketplace, and if @BlueCrossNC holds their stance, then I’ll go that route obviously.

We have a created a complex team of medical professionals, incl mental health professionals, over the past 14 years in Raleigh, & we may lose coverage for many of them.
