3 ways evangelical leaders stifle Christian politicl action

1. Demand that we ascribe altruism to our opponents & ruling class
2. Condemn the use of political power for particular Christian ends
3. Insist that Christians are moral equals (or worse) w/ non-Christians & hypocrites
4. Claim that the violation of 1 - 3 will harm "Christian witness," which affects the winsomeness of the Gospel.
5. Any vilification by Christians of their non-Christian opponents is "Manichean", though self-vilification (or vilification of *those* Christians) is always warranted. Indeed, non-Christian are generally accurate in their criticism of Christians and you should be ashamed.
6. Every evil or "brokenness" in the world is nothing but an occasion for you to reflect on your own complicity in it. You're not one to condemn or judge it. Every such thing is a means of self-criticism or in-group criticism.
7. A politics of "fear" is always bad, unless it's fear among ethnic minorities and women. In that case, you must validate (every time), publicly recognize that it's your fault, and join a political struggle to alleviate that fear.
8. No Christian can vote for his or her own group interest (for this world is not your home), unless you're a Christian ethnic minority and/or woman. In that case, you can vote solely in the interest of your group, even against the material interests of your fellow Christians.
9. The best way to be "counter-cultural" is to be a political moderate and share the same policies and concerns as the political "center" or center-left (i.e., the ruling class).
