300 UK troops have arrived in Mali to commence preparations in support of @UN_MINUSMA peacekeeping mission

The highly trained task force will conduct reconnaissance patrols to help the UN protect civilians

The @UNPeacekeeping Mission in #Mali is made up of over 14,000 peacekeepers from 56 different countries and works to:

➡️encourage security sector reform
➡️protect civilians
➡️promote human rights

➡️One of Africa’s most fragile regions
➡️Marked by chronic poverty, instability, gender inequality
➡️Vulnerable to effects of climate change

This deployment of UK troops is a demonstration of the importance we place on improving security in the Sahel by protecting local communities.
