From the moment I became an #iwill Ambassador back in 2016 (how has it been 4 years?!) I knew I’d found people and an organisation who really felt passionately about what I did. I finally felt like I had a community around me of likeminded young people and staff who championed us
I remember in 2018 being totally unable to decide whether to apply for the Trustee role. I wanted to be more involved in the campaign and was developing an interest in the role of a Trustee but I did not have any confidence in myself that it was a role I could do...
I decided I would regret it if I didn’t apply and the worst that would happen would be that I didn’t get it. I have a really vivid memory of my interview with how relaxed @Lotte_IWill and @nrandrcparker made me feel. To my complete surprise I was then asked to join the Board..
My first meeting I was terrified. Imposter syndrome was huge and I was overwhelmingly anxious about whether I had anything valuable to contribute. Conversations before the meeting began with SUTS young trustees @lukereesuk and Pauline at the time really helped calm my nerves...
And I soon realised I did have a lot to contribute in that room. It wasn’t always easy and I’ve had my moments of really struggling with the role and not feeling confident to speak up. But I’ve learnt so much over these past few years from fellow Trustees and from staff
A memorable moment of support being from @charlotte_govan on a day where I was feeling particularly anxious before a board meeting. The support and flexibility allowed me to contribute in a meeting I didn’t think I was going to be able to 
It’s been a fantastic experience. So much so that I decided I wanted to continue being a Trustee and joined the board of @weareplatfform - I’m so thankful I had the opportunity to play a part in the #iwill journey in this way and am excited to continue on this journey too!
If you’re a young person reading this and you aren’t sure if a trustee role is for you: You have loads to offer and any board would be lucky to have your insight. It’s an opportunity that will be super valuable on the right board - take the chance and go for it
