Brexit talks: Despite intense negotiations over past 24 hours (fuelled by pizza and sandwiches) told by UK source that ‘talks have gone backwards a bit today. Barnier returns to Brussels tomorrow 1/
EU source tells me the expectation was MB returns to Brussels to report to Coreper, review mandate & then come back to UK over weekend to close deal, but that might not be the case. But EU negotiating team staying and more coming over weekend, so talks continue 2/
On the UK side, told by a source that French have been agitating around fishing and it’s been destabilising. Source says the UK wants to go back to where talks were 24 hours ago... 3/
A bit of last minute drama before the two sides sit back down & seal a deal? Talks going on over weekend & MB could well brief EU ambos and then come back to london over weekend. EU side not getting drawn into London view that talks gone badly past 24 hours. We wait & watch...4/
