just think about the options warner bros had:
1) delay the films again, further clogging their catalogue of films
2) release them ONLY on streaming and guarantee the decline of theaters
3) cancel the films
4) the best of both worlds, streaming and theatrical releases

does it suck? yeah. is it surprising? no. even pre-pandemic, the industry was headed this direction. I think it’s a good compromise and, who knows, maybe the pandemic will remind people why they love theaters so much. interest will always be there for film buffs...
...and they might gain some novelty from being the more customary way to consume film. there could be a resurgence based purely on nostalgia. I think theaters NEEDED something like this
