It's that time again for me to sound like a total Grinch about holiday email, so let's go.

If you are a B2B sender, don't! Send! A holiday greeting! Or Happy New Year! Email!

"But SKYLER, why???" you ask, mouse hovering over the send button.
1. Subscribers don't want or care about it. You aren't providing any legitimate value with that email. I know what day it is, I know what holiday it is. I do not sit around on Christmas day thinking, "ah man, why didn't <company> send me a holiday greeting email?"
If anything, I get annoyed with the deluge of "Happy Holidays" emails and am more likely to unsubscribe based on you cluttering my inbox with emails I do not need or want.

Oh, and on that note, quick sidebar, YOUR HOLIDAY GREETINGS ARE NOT TRANSACTIONAL.
If you send me a holiday greeting without a working unsubscribe link or if you're ignoring my unsubscribe status, I am going to complain to your ESP.

That may mean, because I work at an ESP, that I complain to myself. Please don't make more work for me, I have plenty.
2. Between December 22ish and January 3ish, you're going to get s l a m m e d with OOO emails. And you can't just delete every email in your reply inbox. You have to look through them, because there may be replies or unsub requests. You've just created more work for yourself.
And you've created more work for yourself with little, if any, real benefit.

Please, consider my inbox. Consider the value of an email that has nothing really important to say and may actually be doing more potential harm (slash annoyance) than good.

For the record, I love Christmas. I love holiday lights and paper greeting cards. I'm not like, anti-holidays, I'm anti-cluttering-my-inbox-with-nothing-useful. :)
