12/3/19 ~ I had returned from Thanksgiving in SEA & wearing @JoanieVee1's #WAforKamala 
& just finished a packet of doors when I got an urgent Slack message to jump on an all-staff campaign call. 1/

By the time I got on, I could see horrified texts from @emilyrbateman along the lines 'oh god no' & my first thought was that someone in the campaign had died.
Nope, it was the campaign itself that was ending. @KamalaHarris was resolute as she told us the hard, hard news. 2/

Once the call was over, I felt dazed. Our time had been so planned & regimented by goals: make X number of calls today, knock Y number of doors. It was just past noon & I now had no commitments.
So, I went & got some of the amazing fried chicken from the gas station deli & 3/

called @tharunv_ to help consume it. We ended up road-tripping an hour plus to Myrtle Beach to rendezvous w/ @emilyrbateman & @ItsRainaingMen. From there, we headed south to Charleston to meet up w/ the organizers in that area. Thx @ecburke62 for letting me crash on your sofa! 4
Dinner that night felt like a post-funeral get together. Deep sadness punctuated by giddy flights of laughter at a remembered experience w/ the deceased. We received word that the next morning, @KamalaHarris would be at campaign HQ in Columbia at 10 to thank the team. So, 5/
From Charleston & around SC, everyone caravanned to Columbia. We were all feeling pretty ragged, but when @KamalaHarris arrived SHE looked fab. Fresh as a daisy. Impeccable. She then proceeded to coax, praise & condole us. On what must have been among hardest days for her. 6/
She praised us for the work & investment folks had made in SC. So many folks on the campaign were from SC (like @keshanapolanco @ryan_robidoux @PhiliseaM @timiciagrant) & she knew how these ties matter to that political ecosystem. She urged us to keep going. Not to give up. 5/
Then she stood & personally greeted each of the staff, often hugging or consoling us. At the end, we took a huge group photo... 6/
So much shared respect & love in that room! 7/
Later a herd of many out-of-towners took over @neelbhuta's 1Bed apartment. Not sure how many of us slept there that evening, but I was grateful @liitttlemermaid brought her inflatable bed & I got a corner of it! 8/

I'm so grateful for the chance to have worked w/ committed, resilient & capable folks of the #KamalaforSC campaign! And, one yr after we drowned our sorrows at her campaign's end, we get to celebrate her being our #MadameVicePresident.
