Law libraries are critical, but it *does* come at a price. In the 13 years I’ve been at the CCLA, the LSO library levy has moved incrementally downward while publishing costs have soared.
The levy for 2021 is $159.00.
What could $159.00 get you if you used it on your own?

That $159 also needs to go towards the staff you need (and want!) to help you select, purchase, find, and learn to use any of the print or electronic products.
It also pays for:

- a phone to call your librarian at

Courthouse libraries have been making it work for so long, but it is hard and collections have and will continue to suffer, and the line from *that* to a reduced competency of the Bar is a straight one.
Anyways, here’s what you can do:
Let your benchers know the libraries are valuable to you. It’ll be 2022 budget time before you know it.
If libraries aren’t valuable to you personally, please have a think on how they might be valuable to your fellow lawyers.
