It's good to be Comrade Welderburn

A thread
New Welderburg is the kind of town where you take your own garbage to the dump
The man that runs the dump is probably 70 and literally looks like backwoods Santa
Big white head of hair and beard and mustache
If Santa hunted deer as well as being towed by them
That's our guy
He's a great but only slightly gruff man. Lives 2 blocks from the new compound
I usually take spawn5 and spawn6 with when we go to the dump
He gives all the kids suckers or popsicles depending on the season
Not in a grooming way. In the way that gas stations and nurses did when I was a kid
The kids love our trash Santa
And he gets a kick out of them
Spawn5 is ultra sweet and decides to make him a present a couple weeks ago. She takes an old jar and puts an inch or two of gravel and rocks in it. Fills it with water and blue food coloring. Flowers of some kind. Fake plastic fish of some kind
Only, the flowers float and the fish don't
She's 9 so what are you gonna do, right?
It's still adorable
Anyway, last night spawn4 and I go to the dump just before closing time, without the girls
Trash Santa asks me if I would mind if he gave them a jewelry box his wife didn't need anymore
Of course not dude, they'll love it just promise you won't get sad if they drop it or a cat or dog knocks it over someday
He comes by after the dump closes
But I haven't told him about his present yet
He pulls up outside the shop and I come out and he's beside himself because his wife already found someone that wanted the jewelry box
I'm like no biggie, the girls don't know a thing yet.
But before you roll out,

Pull up by the house the girls have something for you
They bring out the fish bowl thing and he's out of the truck about to cry
He gives them a music box he was going to give to a granddaughter but he will get another one for her
It's a Thomas Kincaid thing. Watefall, plays the waltz of the flowers from the nutcracker
The girls go crazy and hugs are exchanged
Trash Santa goes on with his evening and I get the girls back inside. It's 36 degrees and I have to finish building a transmission for my Dodge
Ten minutes later both girls are back out in the shop just bawling because'its so sweet and they love it so much and a dozen other adorable things'
I eventually get them back in the house and get back to work with a big smile
9 pm I go inside
They're still a bit weepy
God bless America
