Today, HNGRY is breaking the story on http://Wonder.com , a stealth unicorn delivery startup from @Walmart eCommerce CEO Marc Lore that's licensing menus from renowned restauranteurs (including Michelin-starred ones) like Bobby Flay to bring to the suburbs via food truck. 1/
The startup is unique from rivals CloudKitchens and Reef in that it is exclusively targeting the suburbs like Union County, NJ, preparing "meal kits" in a centralized commissary to be finished while en-route to a customer's doorstep. 2/
Based on documents filed with the State of Delaware, HNGRY has confirmed that the company initially raised a seed round of ~$150mm and estimates that it raised a subsequent $350mm series A this summer at a $1.3bn - $1.5bn valuation assuming dilution of 45% and an 80% premium. 3/
While $DASH maintains 58% market share in suburbs, which have seen the most growth in delivery across the board during the pandemic, Wonder is poised to be a strong contender thanks to its logistics that enable it to deliver 2x+ the number orders/hr compared to DD. 4/
Attaching some screenshots here. The app is really nice and apparently the food is done justice. The stakes are too high to not get this right. 5/
The question remains how these local restaurant brands (e.g. Frankie's Spuntino in NY, Barrio Café in AZ) can scale to other markets and the demand density that can get them the superior economics to beat out rivals. But the economics are really good. 6/
