Your daily reminder that ageism is bullshit: https://www.independent.co.uk/news/people/daniel-craig-explains-why-calling-monica-bellucci-older-woman-ridiculous-a6706537.html
Bullshit as in 'man, the cult of youth kneecaps everyone from actual youths, who are alternately predated on or told they need to spend their years working to be an adult, to older people, who are marketed the idea life ends at 30.'
Not bullshit as in it doesn't exist. c.c

Ageism means there's no age where we're comfortable with being who we are. We're always not enough in some capacity, always unsatisfied because we're too old, too young, and jesus, has that always pissed me off.
People who work in media, regardless of specific medium, have a responsibility to stop perpetuating this ridiculousness. Especially in regards to women. Like...
Someone tried to cast Charlize fucking Theron as Gal Gadot's MOM. They are nine years apart in age. https://www.usatoday.com/story/life/allthemoms/2019/05/05/charlize-theron-refused-play-gal-gadot-mom-wonder-woman/1111084001/
Anyway, the cult of youth needs to go die in a ditch somewhere.

... to be clear: I absolutely do think that young virtuosos deserve to be celebrated. Like holy fuck, it makes my fucking heart SOAR when I see people in their teens and their early 20s do amazingly.
But it should absolutely be normalized too that it is okay to just be a kid, a young 20something trying to figure out what you want to do with your life. Existence is HARD.
Same with deciding you need a pivot at 35, at 45, at 55, and so on, and so forth. People should be celebrated for pursuing a PhD at 60 after a lifetime of caring for other people. That first novel at 70? That's an accomplishment too.
