/5: Researchers assessed the quality of RCTs looking at HRT in #trans women. Not surprisingly, they identified only 1 trial.

/5: They conclude that there is "insufficient evidence to determine the efficacy or safety of" HRT in #trans women. They call for RCTs and plan to include uncontrolled studies in the next iteration of their review.
/5: Although there is certainly "a gap between current clinical practice and clinical research," this is certainly not the fault of #trans women. Assigning trans women in an RCT to less than standard HRT or placebo is, at this point, unethical and against the standard of care.
/5: We might have to settle for observational and cohort studies at this point as a price to pay for how we historically treated #trans people. As more women can access HRT than ever before (though still far from easy), long-term safety data could be forthcoming.
/5: In some ways, trans women on HRT are a big ongoing experiment. But that's because the days of proving you were "woman enough" to a panel of male psychiatrists
to get an Rx for HRT are, thankfully, giving way to an informed consent model. #TransRightsAreHumanRights
