The demand side of wildlife trade is understudied. But demand is a multi-stage and dynamic concept. In our Editorial we propose a more complex conceptualization of demand and put forward a research agenda for the consumer side of the wildlife trade chain

A part of the wildlife trade that is often forgotten is the pet trade. It was great to have two papers on different taxa and geographies presenting interesting insights on this topic:
Exotic pets in Russia https://besjournals.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1002/pan3.10125
Bird‐keeping in Java https://besjournals.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1002/pan3.10132

Another key area is the trade for medicine. We had 3 papers on this topic, with key methodological and consumer insights for future demand management interventions:
Rhino horn https://besjournals.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1002/pan3.10121
Bear bile https://besjournals.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10.1002/pan3.10164
Pangolin scales https://besjournals.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1002/pan3.10150

Pangolin scales https://besjournals.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1002/pan3.10150
But beyond insights on specific behaviors there are broader issues that need to be taken into account:
One is the different philosophies that guide different groups https://besjournals.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1002/pan3.10127
The other is that demand is only part of the market chain
https://besjournals.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1002/pan3.10119

Lastly, the thorny issue of impact evaluation. It is hard to measure behaviour but even harder to link it to biological indicators, which we must do to understand the impact of interventions on wildlife
The case of sea turtle meat and eggs in São Tomé https://besjournals.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1002/pan3.10162

Lastly a shout out to the @PaN_BES Editorial team which was very supportive and a pleasure to work with!
Big thanks!
