NEW: It is now taking over a week on average for the state to report new positive cases of #COVID19 in #Tennessee from the date of those tests. 1/
The delay in reporting has been going up across all regions of the state 2/
This does not necessarily mean it is taking 7 days on average for the patient to learn they are positive for the virus. 3/
What it does mean is the true picture of the pandemic in Tennessee is receding in our rearview mirror. Wednesday’s reported cases really only gave us a full picture of positive cases leading into the week of #Thanksgiving 4/
These delays hamper the ability of policymakers and hospitals to plan & respond. It also means that when we do turn a corner, it will take longer to actually know. So policy changes may have to remain 1-2 weeks longer than if reporting lags were shorter & we learned sooner. /5
We remind all Tennesseans that with a #CovidVaccine on the near horizon that it is more important than ever to continue to do the things we know prevent spread.
