Friends - some facts on puberty blockers and why they are necessary and life saving for trans kids -
First of all they are very hard to get ahold of - literally anything medically related to trans healthcare is -
Kids need a guardian or parent to approve, they need medical “proof” of dysphoria, and they need to medically “prove” that this dysphoria is or has been long term (proof usually comes from a therapist or medical professional) -
Puberty blockers only affect secondary sexual characteristics - facial hair, voice deepening, menstruation, etc. No other biological impact occurs -
They are NOT PERMANENT. The effects are COMPLETELY REVERSIBLE. If a kid changes their mind - no harm no foul. Blockers merely put pause on the amount of estrogen and testosterone released (AFAB and AMAB respectively) to allow a kid more time to know themselves -
If you let your child have puberty blockers and they end up not being trans, nothing bad happens -
BUT. If you deny your child puberty blockers when they tell you they’re trans, you’ve ensured their future debilitating medical costs, their potential dangerous self harm should they seek alternate methods (like under the table Rx) and their mental anguish -
Those high suicide statistics of trans people you see anti-trans people proudly pointing to? They either hadn’t the means to transition physically, were never able to get their dysphoria eased medically, or were rejected by their loved ones for being trans -
Don’t you dare tell me you care about children’s lives and then subject them to that.
Denying trans kids puberty blockers is equivalent to “abstinence only” sex ed . You’re not preventing anything you’re making it worse by pushing kids to make unsafe choices.
If you need to fact check for yourself the Mayo Clinic has good medically based reading - https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/gender-dysphoria/in-depth/pubertal-blockers/art-20459075
For the love of god stop reading and sharing “balanced viewpoint” articles. That’s like saying “should we open the door to a child becoming suicidal? Here is a pro and con list.”
