On release, Mitsu was given a strong backdash, good pokes, mixups and a very scary SC/CE.
To stop him from being too oppressive, devs gave him weak anti steps and his gap close tools were made so he couldn't get a knockdown with most of them.
For season 2, devs buffed his stances options to make him a more aggresive/mixup type of character while nerfing his damage on overused mixups and CE.
At the time, they also gave strong Soulcharge to most of the characters.
More recently, a big global nerfs to pokes arrived.
Mitsu got hit very hard on this patch. So hard that it was almost impossible to keep in check people from just using a step into crusher in almost every situations against Mitsu.
Thankfully for me this patch was followed by a round of buffs for the samurai, giving his 66K and 2A+B better frames on hit alongside the ALMIGTHY buff to his 22K.
Those first 2 changes, although not seemingly super strong at the time, appeared to be way better than anticipated.
Why, you ask?
A new rule was added to the game, it worked like that:
If you hit your opponent with a +10 move, your vertical i20 non thrust (66B for example) move would catch opponent during their step!
This was a blessing for Mitsu's 66K and 2A+B recently buffed to +10 on hit.
But this can't be a happy ending, right? Why would I bother writing all this if this wasn't a complain in the first place (🙃) ?!
The scary villain arrives now with a BIG nerf to the previously buffed verticals along with very small buffs to moves like 6AA (Still a joke imo).
The recently installed rule of +10 i20 vertical tracking is no more!
Once again we live in the terror of steps, crushers and mashing in all kind of ways. Everything seems better than blocking against a lot of the cast in most situations, even on really high frame disadvantage.
While I understand the choice of the devs to not let launchers catch steps from a design perspective, there are now a lot of dumb scenarios when fighting some characters. Here is one:
With Mitsu, you can now left step NM's 66B at -10 BUT you still cannot left step it in neutral!
The nerfs to special throws break advantage have also hurt Mitsu more than most of the cast, due to his lack of i18 or faster mid range hori.
People can just step guard almost everything after a break now.
The 5 damages buff doesn't compensate for that nerf at all in my opinion.
I honestly think Mitsu needs help right now.
This is the second time I feel that way with the character. First time being at the "basics nerfs" patch.
66K and 2A+B now need more reward on hit (being +10 is not enough now for low damage verticals).
Mitsu's hurtbox needs adjustements too, he got hit by so many things while using 8wayrun. And this is a problem since release.
I was fine with having bad steps but not if they buff every other character hurtbox and step distance in each patch.
TLDR:

This patch aimed for even more freedom of moving around, which should be good if each character have enough to punish movements.
This is not the case right now and this made my gameplay experience just frustrating.
I'm considering a break from the game until patched...
At least Hwang is very fun and unique, I guess I can just stay in the lab with him while waiting for some kind of patch.
I guess I should tag some people of power ahah! Maybe they will hear the cries of my poor samurai😭
