how to respect nonbinary people: a thread by a nonbinary person.
1) don’t use gendered terms unless we have stated otherwise on our accounts.
2) do not deadname us. ever.
3) if you aren’t sure what pronouns we use, use they/them. or simply ask us what pronouns we use.
4) if we use multiple sets of pronouns, use them. don’t just pick and choose what sets to use unless we say otherwise.
5) if you misgender us, just apologize. don’t make a huge deal out of it but also don’t just not apologize.
6) do not call us an enby unless we say it is okay.
7) don’t make jokes about our identities, especially around us.
8) not all nonbinary people use they/them or are comfortable so don’t just call us they/them when you know our pronouns are something else.
9) just treat us like normal fucking people and treat us with basic respect.
10) also, do not fetishize us. do not infantize us. we are not your “uwu enby” we are people.
11) someone suggested I add this and it’s also important. if someone uses neopronouns please use them.
