Folks, sharing some thoughts on the 'Content Moderation' by Twitter, leading to what is often called as a #ShadowBan.
It might be a bit late in the day, but I just came across this aspect of Twitter and had a sort of an epiphany.
Here it is ..
It is not something that will override the 'brilliant' algorithms, but may mitigate the effects to some little extent.
Just go to the homepage of your twitter feed.
It should look something like this for web users.
Do notice the HOME wala message on the top left hand side.
For mobile users, it looks something like this. You won't see 'Home' or any such thing mentioned.
Now look out for this icon on the top right hand side.
It is common for both web as well as android users.
It is here that a bit of sorcery happens!
Click on it to see the 'Sorcery' first hand!!
By default, the settings for 'HOME' are such that they show you 'TOP TWEETS' first.
Now who defines what constitutes top tweets is none of my business, but that person definitely thinks my own tweets don't make the cut!
Consequently, I was unable to see MY OWN TWEETS on MY OWN TIMELINE thus far!
So I chose the other option - See latest Tweets instead.
VOILA!
My own tweets were back on my TL, as were those of some other like-minded people who too didn't make the cut wrt 'TOP' Tweets!
So now my homepage on Twitter shows 'Latest Tweets' instead of 'HOME' as was earlier!
Nice, no?
The Default 'HOME' option hides away your own tweets from your own TL and instead, you have to choose a different option to see them.
Hat Tip to the 'good' folks of Twitter indeed!
BUT ..
It doesn't end here!
The 'Good' folks of Twitter assure you that they will take you back to THEIR preferred option for YOUR OWN TIMELINE, after some time.
Nope, you don't have ANY say in it whatsoever!
No it may be fine for folks who use Twitter via a laptop / desktop and get to see the 'Home' / 'Latest Tweets' message on top of their screens.
But there is no such message on the Android App!
So Android users won't have any idea as to when Twitter will switch them BACK to 'TOP' tweets WITHOUT their consent!
So here it is, folks.
Switch to LATEST tweets to have your timeline reflect content YOU choose to see, instead of what Twitter offers as 'TOP' tweets.
More importantly, keep checking it, because Twitter folks WILL change it back to THEIR preferred option soon enough!
