AVAC Sam's tragic backstory with his parents vs comics Sam tragic backstory with his parents
This is actually the only thing that bothers me about Immortal Hulk Sam.
It was said and shown several time he was alienated by his family so I don't think the worst his father did was "forgetting his Birthday", but then again it's Sam, he might be lying.
I think Immortal Hulk is the only run he mentionned his father though, he never ever talks about his parents (or anything related to his normal human life). But in Immortal Hulk he mentionned him several times.
The only time he talked about one of his parents was back in the 90s
when he just ironically says his mom thought he would probably be a plumber later (suggesting his mom thought he was too dumb to do anything outside of manual work).

However, he does talk about his brother because he is also a Hulk villain, Phillip Sterns, the Madman
Long story short, his brother was Bruce's classmate and he became obsessed with him and Hulk (yeah, the Sterns have a thing for them it seems) he loved Hulk (litteraly, he said it himself) and ended up hating him, thinking Bruce's and Sam's gamma powers belong to him.
So he irradiated himself, turned crazy and developped this Madman persona. Eventually Madman killed Phil (like Bruce and Hulk they were two differents persona).
He came back in Thunderbolts (thus the reason Ross brought Sam back) but I don't know if Phil and Madman were the same?
it's kinda confusing, Sam called him Phil so I guess it was.

Anyway, after that Sam killed him to save "thousands of life" (he was amnesic back then and tried to be a good lad). But Sam's feeling about his brother are quite confusing, I'm not really sure myself.
In Thunderbolts it was said Phil bullied him when they were kids and Sam had to come up with some strategy just to hide his Halloween candies from him when he was like 7-8 y/o (seems like Sam was always smart but just burried it, kinda like Bruce was always angry and violent).
And when Sam made a deal with Mephisto, he asked to be able to see Phil's endless suffering, enjoying it. He was also very jealous of him, he grew up in his shadow because Phil was seen as the promising smart son and Sam, well, as the dumb useless one

Phil did turn crazy because
of the pressure his parents put on him though, always having to be the smartest, having good grades etc... That's why he hated and loved Bruce, who was the smartest in his class.

Anyway, so in Thunderbolts Sam seems to hate Phil and yet, in Immortal Hulk he was the only
person in his life before his mutation, he said he would miss him and in Madman's first appearence run, Sam asked Hulk to kill him because he couldn't kill his own brother even if he knew Madman would try to kill him eventually. So I don't know, it seems complicated
I kinda hope @Al_Ewing will bring back Madman at some point (he's dead so he's in the Place Below technically? Unless he's still with Mephisto? Idk) and eventually show more of their relationship. I do have hope because he said it was a possibility when asked about the U-foe and
Madman coming in Immortal Hulk and, well, the U-Foe are coming in January so who knows? Maybe.

I just wish we would learn more about Sam's past, his relationship with his family is litteraly the reason he became the Leader and yet nobody never mention it https://twitter.com/Al_Ewing/status/1227981140180467712
