I want creators to able to play their favorite songs in their content but I also want artists, composers, songwriters (who may not be as a popular or financial stable) to be able to have a second income from licensing. We don't pay for music like we used to.
That is what makes the "but we giving them free exposure" argument so disingenuous. They are some songs I like but I will ONLY listen to them if a streamer I'm watching is playing it. I'm not about search for it on a streaming platform on my own.
I'm just patiently waiting for them to create the platform for Internet distribution of content and licensing that is easily accessible.
I truly believe the reason we keep going on like this is because a lot of yall, even though a lot are creators too, don't value the work put into creating something.
You only see the value if a sale is attached to it.
You only see the value if a sale is attached to it.
And platforms are finding more and more ways to rip off artists in the process. This should be a conversation between creators, lawmakers and then we tell platforms what we need.
Spotify will let artists give their songs a boost — and get paid less in exchange https://www.theverge.com/2020/11/2/21545958/spotify-artist-tiktok-promotion-rate-royalty-algorithm?utm_campaign=theverge&utm_content=entry&utm_medium=social&utm_source=twitter via @Verge
The reason platforms are getting away with this is because "regular," "everyday" creators haven't dug in that ass about how they allow their content to be easily distributed with no pay.
