I have repeatedly heard people lose their collective minds over “defund the police” completely unsure of what that even means. We pointed out that the system has been defunding the community for decades. Last night they DEFUNDED five childcare centres without a plan. 1/
We must follow the money. When the call for defund the police was first brought to the council’s attention we spoke about the continued pattern of defunding shared common goods to fund overpolicing. We made it clear that no money should be taken from one social service to fund 2/
another. The council said this is about equity. Equity doesn’t defund the vulnerable in the system. Equity doesn’t act without a plan. WE MUST FOLLOW THE MONEY. We must all stay focused on the upcoming WRPS budget decision by regional council. We must demand to know WHERE the 3/
the money to fund this increase is taken from. Is it from our children? Our community programs? We must show our disapproval by voting them out! This is unconscionable and unacceptable. The voices of the community continue to be ignored. FOLLOW THE MONEY
