“An unusual sequence of numbers” genuinely laughed out loud at the stupidity of that opening line https://twitter.com/scottkeir/status/1334462278880661504
I do love the idea that to rig a lottery, you’d choose a sequence of numbers that raises maximum suspicion from people who don’t understand probability, rather than some non-sequential numbers that wouldn’t raise an eyebrow
The reason there were so many winners is because lots of people have sequential numbers as their lottery pick. Those people understand probability and are now being rewarded for it with a chunk of money.
Incidentally, the number one most common bit of rationalist explaining I have to do in everyday life is about probability (usually lottery numbers). It’s counter-intuitive but also heavily exploited by the gambling industry, so I don’t blame those who don’t get it.
