Unlike many other stories on various media platforms over the last 48 hrs, the article reminds us that we're dealing with a small number of people referred to the Tavistock, that it's a long process with clinicians and that patients tend to be well beyond Tanner 2 puberty. 2/
Far from a mass fast-tracking of all referrals onto puberty blockers, only a minority have been offered the treatment, with the majority receiving non-medicalised support. 3/
On the higher number of those assigned female at birth accessing the service: the disparity is quite possibly caused by patriarchal society, added to the fact that those assigned male at birth often feel less able to express who they are to family and peers.4/
