STARTING NOW AT #DCdays20:
Managing risk through nature-based solutions --> https://www.ur2020.org/agenda/session/440121

We'll discuss risks associated with biodiversity loss and climate change. NBS is a critical ingredient in fulfilling international obligations and addressing local risk.
Nature-based solutions are: actions to protect, sustainably manage, and restore natural or modified ecosystems, that address societal challenges like biodiversity loss and climate change. #DCdays20
First speaker at this #DCdays20 session is Mike Jennings from @SANBI_ZA.

Communities living in the areas where they work in South Africa are extremely vulnerable to climate-related risks.
Over-grazing has increased tendency to flooding, with resulting risks to livelihoods.

They've been using NbS to remove invasive species, do regenerative agriculture & more to restore the landscape.

@SANBI_ZA have developed toolkits in local languages to support the programme.
Vu Ley Y Voan, Senior Advisor, #ForestFarmFacility, Viet Nam Farmers’ Union: biodiversity loss poses big risks for farmers in Vietnam. They are losing access to natural resources & cultural heritage that are important for their farming and forestry businesses & way of life.
#ForestFarmFacility is using a number of different tactics to support farmers to integrate nature-based solutions into risk management. #DCdays20

There's been a lot of work to calculate the risk to ecosystems, says @chipc27 from @AXA_XL at #DCdays20
The Coastal Risk Index aims to price the risk to coastal ecosystems, with or without the protection of mangroves.
. @AXA_XL are working to link fisherfolk to financial services, to strengthen their financial resilience, and increase the adaptive capabilities of communities.

Working to drive investment into the most vulnerable parts of the world, and NbS can be integrated into this.
All the presenters in this #DCdays20 session have shown that nature-based solutions help and benefit human society but the benefits to biodiversity and climate resilience are also clear, says IIED's Xiaoting Hou Jones.
There are many benefits to nature-based solutions, and the multiple ways of working that facilitate NbS, but the biggest benefit is resilience. #DCdays20
How have nature-based solutions helped communities respond to COVID-19?

Communities around the world are demonstrating that working with nature brings many benefits, including greater resilience. Take a look at the @FriendsofEbA storymap --> https://tinyurl.com/EbA-COVID-19  #DCdays20
