So, Govt has announced a "package of measures" it says will support schools around exams, tests and accountability: thread (1/5) @NEUnion @MoreThanScore
Exams
✔️ Advance notice of exam topics & aids for GSCEs and A-levels
✖️No info for students on how disruption to learning due to pandemic will be taken into account
Uncertainty is causing students so much stress: unacceptable they don't know what's happening #FairGrade2021 (2/5)
Primary tests
✔️Year 2 SATs & some Year 6 papers scrapped
✖️Year 6 SATs & other formal tests go ahead
Preparing for/doing these tests will waste valuable teaching time & put unnecessary pressure on kids. What's the point? #DropSATs2021 (3/5)
Ofsted/accountability
✔️No Ofsted until Easter & usual league tables not published
✖️No clarity for schools on who'll have access to test data
Fear of Ofsted etc drives lots of pointless practices in schools which divert attention from teaching and learning #StopOfsted2021 (4/5)
In summary: this is a start and there are good things in here. But Govt must do better and wean itself off its addiction to tests and accountability measures which are totally irrelevant in a pandemic (5/5)
