1) Use the correct name / gender

This goes without saying but when you are not mailing a general inbox but a person directly, look up that person's first name and gender.

First impression is everything.
2) Context matters

When you are emailing someone out of the blue be personal and create context already in the first sentence.

How did you find the email? Why is this a good fit? How does your company fit the thesis of the firm?
3) Default to English

If you are not 100% certain the person speaks your native language, default to English.

I promise it will save you a lot of time and confusion.
4) Spend time reviewing your material

If you are attaching material make sure it looks neat, is up to date, and has relevant formatting.

Yes you shouldn't judge the book by its cover but decisions are fast and sending something that looks professional matters.
5) Write your company name in the subject line

It is very likely that the person you are emailing receives a lot of emails.

By putting your company name in the title it is more likely that they will find it when searching through the inbox + remember it more easily.
