I've had a long, long year to try and collect my thoughts about The Rise of Skywalker, and I've finally distilled my thoughts into two sentences:

The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi said, "This is for everyone."

The Rise of Skywalker said, "...except you."
I'd seen the original and prequel trilogies plenty of times, but I never had that sort of slavish devotion to Star Wars that seemed to take others my age.

The Force Awakens, if you'll forgive the turn of phrase, awakened something in me. I cried in the theater. I loved it.
The Last Jedi felt like the natural evolution of that, the next step not just of the story that I foolishly thought the sequel trilogy had planned, but for the franchise itself. The Last Jedi was, for a good couple of years, one of my favorite movies of all time.
I felt *included* by TFA and TLJ.

And then The Rise of Skywalker came out.

I did everything I could to avoid spoilers. I even didn't watch the trailer. I'd NEVER done that before, not with ANYTHING.

Then I watched it.
The Rise of Skywalker felt, to me, like a movie bending over backwards to appease the people who didn't like TLJ. In doing so, it told me that the movie that had come to define my love of Star Wars didn't really matter.

And if it didn't matter then, well, neither did I.
TRoS left me in a really unhappy place, so much so that I gave away my Star Wars Blurays. I don't currently have any on my shelf, except for a prequel trilogy fan-edit a friend did a few years ago.
I stopped watching The Mandalorian after Chapter VII. Didn't watch the finale. Haven't touched season 2. Don't know if I ever will. I might! But not right now.
Anyway, the reason I mention this is because I've felt the itch the last few days to revisit Rogue One. That's another film I truly, truly enjoyed, and one that deepened my love of Star Wars even further.

I kind of want to go back to that. I want to fall in love with it again.
If you're reading these tweets and you're priming a response about how The Last Jedi is Bad, Actually, or how The Force Awakens is just a remake of the '77 movie, or how Rogue One has no interesting characters in it, do me a favor and drop your phone down a storm drain.
