Watching the #Rams #Cowboys 2018 Divisional Playoff game right now. Already right off the bat, the dual backfield of CJ Anderson & Todd Gurley is exactly how I feel the Rams need to use Akers and Hendo. I guess I'll make this a thread.
These types of stalls in the red zone are just killer. The #Rams ran down the #Cowboys throat on the opening drive. They only threw the ball a handful of times and when the Rams needed a touchdown here Goff faced a blitz by LVE and drifted backward instead of trying to hit Cooks
So the thing that is frustrating is that the Rams get off to this great start, don't ask Goff to do a whole lot and this play results in a FG. Defense would give up an Amari Cooper touchdown after a fourth-down conversion following on the next drive.
#Rams adopted this new run-heavy offense and the #Cowboys had literally no answer. Keep in mind, CJ had come off the street and had been a lightning rod with Malcolm Brown and Gurley out. Davis and Kelly weren't ready for the moment and Gurley comes back and they use them both.
This same drive the #Rams tried to open up the playbook a bit but the #Cowboys weren't buying the run yet and the play action didn't work. Comes down to a 3rd and 10, Goff connects with Cooks for 9. McVay goes with a quick snap and a QB sneak. Goff picks up the first at midfield.
Love this. Really toyed with this Cowboys defense. Brought in Gurley for the fake with Reynolds and then put in CJ who this defense couldn't handle. I think Gurley's running style they enjoyed defending more because CJ roughed up and tired the Dallas defense. Opened up everything
My videos aren’t uploading so this whole thread won’t post 🥴 — I will say this. The Rams on the first two drives went 25 plays for 127 yards and TWO...field goals.
This run by CJ just makes you go wow! The TD throw from Goff on what looks like a designed rollout at first is exactly a full surveillance of the field before he throws a laser to Cooks. Cooks has to catch that. Instead? It’s 7-6 Rams are losing a game they shouldn’t be.
Jared Goff throws another beautiful ball on the money this time to Higbee & it sails through his hands. Luckily the #Rams are able to pound it home with CJ. However, contrary to popular belief Goff hasn't played bad up to this point. Missed one on 1st drive, 2 drops b2b on next 2
Todd Gurley coasts for a score on this drive which is nice to see in what was his last very good game of his career as a Ram sadly. Look at the blocking on this play. Dallas really hated Gurley and CJ in this game. The headlines were all about Zeke but thats not what happened.
It's just near 5 minutes to go in the third and the #Rams are up 23-7 about to give up a touchdown. This game shouldn't be close and at this point if someone told you the game would end up 30-22 you may have been shocked. Would like to see McVay put this team away though.
Love this drive to make it a two-possession game. McVay went it for it at the goal line on fourth down. If he misses this we might be telling a different story, the Cowboys may have taken this to OT but we will never know. Bottom line is the aggressiveness was needed. Domination.
In conclusion, Wade Phillips' defense sold out to stop the run and neutralize Zeke Elliott, Sean McVay had a perfect gameplan to dice up the defense, physically brutalize them on the ground and open up the PA passing attack. Oh and Time of Possession? 36-to-23. Dominance.
