This is a must-read article for anyone with a conscience thinking about law school.

It is so illustrative of how the legal profession advances, justifies, even celebrates oppression: not just through lawyers at big firms, but through judges as well. https://slate.com/news-and-politics/2020/12/neal-katyal-supreme-court-nestle-cargill-child-slavery.amp
Realize that lawyers like Katyal at “prestigious,” absurdly well-paying law firms do a version of this 80-100 hrs a week: advance the ability of entities with enormous power to be able to run over people with hardly any, with absolute impunity & no accountability. That’s the job.
Judges, at almost every level of the American legal system, are tasked with doing a version of the same thing. Even in the rare instance when a law makes it on to the books to advance justice, it is perverted by those with power to do the opposite.
“Elite” law schools in the U.S. exist largely to funnel people into these jobs, upholding & expanding the oppressive legal infrastructure of this country and making it harder for people without power to survive. They deserve to be widely reviled for this, not celebrated.
