Let us, the UHCS parents, tell you why this school is so special and means so much to the kids it has nurtured for 23 years: 2/17
One parent said, “My son is asking me, ‘Did I not do good enough job virtual learning this year? Is that why they are closing my school? What about my friends and Mrs. Quezada?’” 3/17
“I’m not sure what we’d do without the UH Charter School. It has always been a welcome and affirming place for our family unit: a son and two dads. We’re not just accepted. We are celebrated. And it’s so important for my son to see.” 4/17
Another parent said: “Mr. Wimberly was the best teacher! My son wants to go back to kindergarten to have Mr. Wimberly as his teacher again!” 5/17
Another parent was worried how his child, among the youngest at the time, would acclimate: “He was quiet. He was scared. It was the gentle, patient approach of teachers that eventually helped him break out of his shell. Now he can’t wait to tell us about his day!” 6/17
"UHCS was decisive in its plan on how to continue remote learning and provided equipment to those who needed. When school opened in the fall, I never hesitated to send my child back. Principal Paquin and the staff have created a ‘bubble’ to keep our kids safe.” 7/17
These parents applaud UHCS for doing an “amazing” job when their son was diagnosed with Autism. “The care, development and personal attention he received would not be available in a regular school. Our kids love the learning environment of UHCS!” 8/17
Here’s what they are closing: “They don’t just teach at UHCS. They challenge you. They teach each student to think independently and outside of the box. Don’t just give me the answer. Tell me how you came up with it. I want my future kids to go there.” 9/17
From another parent: “At the start of each week, Mrs. Quezada sends out the lesson plan. It reads like War & Peace! For first graders!!! She’s meticulous and loves her job. I have no doubt my child will be ready for 2nd grade and beyond!” 10/17
One parent with a child that has a medical condition that set him back developmentally a few years said: “The teachers heard me as a parent and worked to teach my child. Mr. Wimberly, Mrs. Paquin, Mrs. Flaggs and Mrs. Jones all stepped up to reach and educate my child. (cont.)
"It was recommended he stay in his grade level another year but due to COVID-19 the kindergarten class was cut. Now he is in HISD where he is just a number in a system.” 11/17
“One of the highlights each year is the visits by the UH athletic teams. The larger-than-life football and basketball players would read to the kids. Last year @CoachSampsonUH signed a Dr. Seuss book for a little girl: “Always Do Your Best.” That left a lasting impression. 12/17
“The staff is well-trained and very patient when it came to helping my son transition into kindergarten and when my daughter was struggling with math. They offer an after-school program to help, in my case, working parents.” 13/17
“They have successfully resumed face to face classes and given parents a peace of mind that they are offering a secure and safe environment.” 14/17
There are so many other stories like these we would love to share about a school that is a second home to our children. Let us share these stories with you @UHouston! Let's find a solution TOGETHER! 15/17
The UH Board of Regents will meet Thursday (Dec. 3) and be presented with resolution to close the school at end of the school term on May 28, 2021.
We just found out about the meeting Monday. All we want is an opportunity to discuss what can be done and ask for more time.

We just want a chance to save a great school and the jobs of hardworking teachers. 16/17
