I keep thinking about the storytelling in Deep Stone Crypt, but I can’t seem to complete my thoughts.
I love that the story is told through mechanics that are thematically relevant in locations that keep the pacing grounded. We disable crypt security and catch up to the Fallen,

hijacking and “misusing” augments that feel like specialized digital tools, only to be pulled to space when the crypt AI decides we’re dangerous enough to justify literally just nuking everything.

we’re trapped in an inevitable nuclear descent on the Morningstar, doomed to be completely obliterated, so he spends our last moments assuring us that we’ve meddled in affairs far, far beyond our grasp.
The “total destruction” option was not a happy choice. He is furious at us.

But guardians make their own fate. We push through his defenses and neutralize the nuclear cores, and just like that Clovis’ failsafe turns to nothing. With no other option, he implores us to defend the crypt as the Morningstar prepares for impact.
Also, Taniks was there.

Actually though, I think a big part of why Taniks feels like a bit of a letdown is simply the disappearance of the Crypt AI. It does such a good job of grounding the story and after he’s no longer around to defy, the story loses traction in a big way.
I have a lot of thoughts about all this but I’m mostly just intrigued. DSC is definitely my favorite raid in terms of storytelling.
Wish I could encapsulate all my feelings about it better!
