Normalize NOT ascribing blanket "hero" status to an entire profession, which makes the public complicit in covering for bad actors and upholding systemic problems, and diminishes the accomplishments of ACTUAL heroes.
Lots of people have difficult jobs. The most dangerous job in the US is commercial fishing. Cops aren't even close, but we valorize & reward them to a ridiculous degree. Why? Not bc of their value to society -- fishing feeds millions -- but bc of their value to rich white folks.
But somehow I don't think we're going to get 200 prime time TV shows about brave postal workers -- or even one about a liar. If Biden restores USPS funding and fires DeJoy, I doubt they'll get a raise -- even tho Biden might not be president-elect without them.
Stuff like this is how cops have leveraged their "collective heroism" to become a new mafia terrorizing & parasitizing the public. And this is why apparently a lot of cops are leaving the profession now. They don't want to do it w/o that undeserved adulation. Big, brave heroes!
We are literally forgetting what courage means, as a society. It should center societal good, not the powerful.

So normalize re-individualizing the word "hero/ine." Normalize elevating ppl for their SINGULAR bravery and strength of will. And stop caping for collective cowards.
