Furutani Tsunehira: The NIKE ad pisses off Japan's right-wing b/c of their innate belief that the Japanese are "a superior people who don't engage in discrimination". https://news.yahoo.co.jp/byline/furuyatsunehira/20201203-00210699/
Furutani then, in the next paragraph, demonstrates how wrong that view actually is by casually pointing out the existence of the 在日特権を許さない市民の会 - I.e., the Citizens Committee Against Special Rights for Korean Residents. https://ja.wikipedia.org/wiki/%E5%9C%A8%E6%97%A5%E7%89%B9%E6%A8%A9%E3%82%92%E8%A8%B1%E3%81%95%E3%81%AA%E3%81%84%E5%B8%82%E6%B0%91%E3%81%AE%E4%BC%9A
The Citizens Committee worked to stoke hate against Korean residents of Japan - such as in 2009, when members occupied the gate outside of a Korean school in Kyoto and yelled "kick out the Koreans" and "spy children" over megaphones at the students. https://www.kyoto-np.co.jp/articles/-/100703
"The repeated existence of these numerous demos and instances of street activism are undeniable, and make clear that there is absolutely no truth to the counter-arguments against this video that 'there's very little discrimination in Japan of the kind you find in the West'."
Furutani then points out that, hey - Japan passed a law aimed at curbing hate speech against foreigners! (本邦外出身者に対する不当な差別的言動の解消に向けた取組の推進に関する法律)
Why do that...in a country with no racial discrimination?

"If there's no racism problem in Japan, then it stands to reason you don't need a law regulating hate speech. It's because the reality is the exact opposite of that that a law was passed."
BTW, Furutani points out that the former head of the Citizen's Committee hate group was none other than Sakurai Makoto - the racist who pulled 180,000 votes in his failed bid for the Tokyo Governor's seat.
Oops - author’s name is Furuya Tsunehira, not Furutani. I knew that
Thanks to @tomoakiyama for correcting.

Furuya asks: Why do rightists insist "there's no discrimination in Japan"? One theory is "naive patriotism": They're upset that China and SK/NK are "attacking" Japan w/ anti-Japanese"" policies.
But even if that were true, says Furuya,

But even if that were true, says Furuya,
that's government policy of the respective countries and has NO relation to Chinese and Koreans living in Japan.
The real reason is that rightists have a "pure Japanese" historical outlook - "a world view that the Japanese race is the world's most ethical, and most polite,
The real reason is that rightists have a "pure Japanese" historical outlook - "a world view that the Japanese race is the world's most ethical, and most polite,
and never acts unethically or barbarously. In other words, it's a worldview that [the Japanese] have never discriminated against other races."
