Let Mama take the moment to say a word on relatability and who certain writers clearly aren't interested in that.

I like Batman. I think he's a cool hero but Mama is not Batman. I am not rich, I am not White, I am not male and most of all I didn't have my parents murdered-
-in front of me while I was still in grade school.

Now, by the rules of certain people I should not be able to relate to Bruce.

Well, I don't.

I'm ENTERTAINED by him and that's the god damn point.
I don't have to have characters be 100% like me to RELATE to them or even be ENTERTAINED BY them and in a twist, most of the people I relate to are the 'working class' guys who do the 'nerd hobbies'. You want to know why young Mama didn't 'relate' to a lot of Black-
-female characters growing up.

Not all of them but a few?

Because they sometimes felt samey to me and while I did like them, I didn't RELATE to them because I didn't see myself in them.
Here's something to consider. In The Proud Family, guess who I related to? Was it Penny because she was Black?

No, it was Zoe because she was a shy nerd.

Relatablity is MORE than just outward features. It's also behavior, attitude, hobbies and so on.
It's why BUMBLEBEE from the current DC Super Hero Girls feels like a long time coming because it feels like the idea of a shy, soft spoken Black girl is fucking never a thing or like Goo you have a hyperactive, imagnative one. It's why I HATE how so called progressive people-
-write Black female characters because all they can do is the same fucking 'Sassy bestie' but when THEY do it, it's diverse.

But getting back on topic, even if a character isn't LIKE YOU, what is the problem with that? Why can't people just be fucking ENTERTAINED by them?
"But the X little kids need someone like them!"

And I'm not arguing against that. What I am arguing against is the clear dishonesty in people making the claims that they want to make characters 'relatable' when in the end, they close them into such a tight niche, they're just-
-self inserts of the author. And why do they do this?

Second hand fame.

They do self inserts so much because when they hear someone praising the character, they turn it into praise for them.
So when Noelle hears someone talk about how they love the characters in her version of She-Ra, she knows they're talking about HER because she's every fucking character.

Gotham High? If someone talks about Catwoman, the author gets a chub from that since it's her.
And it's the same thing with the Star Fire comic. It also explains why they get so pissed when you don't praise the character because it's a personal attack. They set the whole thing up so the story is just about them and people aren't supposed to RELATE to them but VALIDATE them
I find this move to be more selfish than anything they can complain about guys getting their personal fantasies because at least then it's a lot more spread out instead of so fucking closed in.
I'm for making characters ENTERTAINING and INTERESTING to follow. I don't fucking know what people want and trying to make them 'relatable' implies that's what you're going for, as if you can read the minds of every person on the planet to make one tasteless blob.
People can find characters they relate to in various places, even if they don't look like them. I don't fucking relate to any of the Black characters being shit out now by 'pros' because they're just Black versions of the same mean girls they write themselves as.
The 'mean girls' made fun of me for liking nerd shit in the first place. Why the fuck would someone think I would relate to them just because they share my skin color and a vagina? I relate to the people they antagonize.
