NBL twitter nerds. With rosters close to complete I’m gonna nerd out a little and do a tiny thread on my feeling for each team so far. I know there’s still a few roster spots to be filled at key positions for some teams so sure some things could change, but yeah.
Cairns - Similar roster. Folks might know to come ready for them this year. A healthy Noi would be a huge boost but this team would be banking on internal improvement from their locals to capture last year’s magic again. Playoff hopeful.
Brisbane - Magnay’s a huge loss and they got probs the least exciting import signing this offseason. They dont really have a 4 and overall it’s a clunky group of locals. Froling needs to properly break out like we’ve been waiting for and Sobey needs to be even better. No playoffs
Sydney - They’re gonna be good. They’re deep, got spacing at the 5 and a slew of players who’ll benefit greatly from that. Starting unit should be tough on defence. A healthier Cooks is gonna be a huge plus, he’ll need to pick up on the offensive end though. Playoff lock.
Illawarra - This team will be fun, with plenty of guys who can lead the scoring on any given night. Mostly a whole new squad so hard to see how it all pans out but I trust Goorj to get them firing. Really excited to see Deng Adel in the league. Playoff hopeful.
New Zealand - I reckon this team is just stacked with playable guys. If Patterson shows up fit and is ready to fit in to an offence with both Webster brothers, Delaney, Abercrombie and guys like that around him? Good team. Playoff lock.
South East Melbourne - A lot rests on who they sign for that starting 1 spot, but it feels like they’re running the risk of another season where they go as Mitch Creek goes. Some local guys on this team who run hot and cold. Need to be consistent (Hello Cam Gliddon). No playoffs.
Melbourne - If Landale signs that starting 5 will be one of the most unstoppable offensive units in the NBL. Defensively on the other hand? Not great beside Mitch at the point of attack. Depth is a concern so the hope would be White is ready and JAL makes a leap. Playoff hopeful
Adelaide - This two big lineup with Humphries and DJ runs the risk of getting absolutely eaten alive on defence. Not a super inspiring squad for mine. If I’m an Adelaide fan I’m excited for Giddey and to see how Humphries goes after his US stint. No playoffs.
Perth - I’m not gonna make the mistake of doubting this team. As usual, their squad doesn’t look like a guaranteed playoff lock but they’re just the San Antonio Spurs of the NBL. They’re gonna be in the mix at the business end of the season, I’m sure.
