Your circumstances matter.

// THREAD //

Your actions can indeed overcome circumstances, but without working within your situation your actions won't take you far.

Let me explain.

(1/14)
For your actions to have an effect they need power.

Power can be defined as effectively applying your knowledge.

Gain greater knowledge, apply and transmute into power.

(2/14)
How does one use knowledge effectively?

I'd like to introduce you guys to a concept in Medicine called Holism.

(3/14)
Holism is the consideration of the person as a whole, a sum of our parts:

- Psychological
- Biological
- Financial
- Spiritual
- Social

This is how we define our situation, and this is where we should focus our actions.

(4/14)
In medicine, for a treatment to be effective, the plan must be personalized to the person's circumstance.

Without taking into consideration all the factors, the treatment won't be effective.

This is the same when it comes to hitting your goals.

(5/14)
Your actions won't have the power to change your circumstance if you're doing the wrong actions, to begin with.

You will be busy, not productive.

(6/14)
Example Goal:
"Earning more money"

Context:
- Someone who doesn't want to run their own business.
- Someone who wants a day job.
- Someone who has a family.

(7/14)
The day-job is the clearest example of Money-twitter, but let's give it a different twist.

It is a common phenomenon in our culture to work OVERTIME and EXTRA HOURS to get more money.

The unfortunate thing about this system is that there is no real improvement.

(8/14)
The day job requires you to sacrifice time for more money.

Now you have less time to:

- Enjoy life
- Spend time with your kids
- Spend time with your loved ones
- Do things that are important to you

Ultimately, this leads to dissatisfaction.

(9/14)
While a lot of money-twitter says to start diversifying and start your own hustles.

This is not relevant to everyone. You can't be forced to do something that you really dislike.

Refer back to our context.

(10/14)
How do I optimize my day job to earn more money?

Instead of:

- Investing your ACTIONS into MORE WORK HOURS.
- Investing your ACTIONS into LESS YOU TIME.

Invest in:

- ACTIONS that will OPTIMIZE the rate limiter.

(11/14)
Our efforts are better put to truly making the situation better.

Within the day-job, the rate limiter is the HOURLY rate.

Therefore, if you wish to make more money as per our scenario.

Well, you have to earn more per hour. Simple.

(12/14)
Within this goal and the context of this individual, the appropriate action would then be:

- Seek a promotion
- Take courses to increase skill-base on job
- Transfer to a different company that offers a better rate

(13/14)
All goals must be made in the context of the individual.

Otherwise, it just won't work.

Learn to listen within and find out what you really need right now.

Make goals that fit you, not someone else.

(14/14)
We have frameworks to help with this.

Take SMART as an example. https://twitter.com/VolkFin/status/1316905072916312069
