why are people (who should know better tbqh) concern trolling about lowcarb dieting like have we learned nothing about commenting on things that might work very well for some people and very badly for others but it's actually not your business and it's creepy to act like it is
theres a lot of research that lower carb can be v successful at regulating blood sugar in both diabetic and prediabetic people, which should be groundbreaking really. And there's no set laws about bodies "needing" a certain amount of carbs, or types, it seems to be trial & error
Drs are bad enough about nutrition as it is, and tend to be kneejerk about stuff even tho their own knowledge is limited and usually v dated on nutrition. It took years of both Drs and endo/adeno diet "advice" pushing shit that absolutely wrecked my body before I tried lowcarb
After already reducing gluten, caffeine, processed sugars & fats, alcohol etc, and some "inflammatory" foods (jury still out on all that tbh) which made a big difference, cutting actual carbs made a monumental difference: most noticeably to my mental health and digestion
And along with that came better sleep, energy, focus, less bloating, and just all round calm: not having to stress about stuff that should work properly makes an incredible difference to quality of life. I dont stick very rigidly to it, possibly kind of carb-cycle, but I notice
immediate changes to my whole wellbeing whenever I eat most carbs and especially gluten. it has an instant effect on my fatigue and metabolism. I can have a carb meal and literally collapse half an hour later, or have a pain spike, sudden anxiety, or just be super grumpy.
I have strict policies on not recommending dietary things to people unless they have expressly asked. But I also think stuff like this gets a lot of uneducated and unnecessary snark which pushes people away from trying it: that happened to me, and I lost years of better wellbeing
I've been vego, almost vegan, tried FODMAP & full allergy testing for coeliacs, gluten & lactose intolerance etc. Thousands of dollars. Full gastroenterology checks and treatments. Psychs. Physios. I quit dairy, soy, sulphites & processed oils while pescatarian (try that, whoa)
if I see another thin and not outwardly chronically ill person - not that it's ok to lecture others even if you are - snark about keto/LCHF being a cholesterol nightmare or "cheese and meat" or whatever, I am gonna set fire to shit. You're not only wrong, you're fkn embarrassing.
"Studies show low carb is bad for you long term" ok idek where to start w that but lm tell you, studies also say soy is bad for endometriosis (it isn't), dairy & red meat are inflammatory and also bad for endo (they may or may not be, chances are its highly individual if at all)
And also: stfu about other peoples diets????? You have no idea what got them to this point. Personally I'm furious I wasted years assuming the "vego/vegan is better for you" was correct and torturing my body with lentils/beans/pulses, filthy processed "healthy" oils & sulphites.
I eat non-keto fruit and veggies, even though some I've noticed are triggers (corn, bananas, some root veggies, etc). I still eat junk food, but I pay for it later, and even then it's usually higher end junk. I experiment w what carbs are easier on my body, like oats, rye & spelt
My diet isnt even close to keto, but eating drastically less carbs than "normal" has seen a consistent improvement to *all* aspects of my health. Focusing on protein & vegetables foremost has worked. My housemate has high cholesterol and commented that I eat mostly "whole" food
And yes, you use fats to get full, and fats to cook in: as much as possible, the fat that comes naturally with the protein, or coconut oil or olive if low temp (not EVOO for cooking!). Canola, rice bran, sunflower, vegetable oil etc are all trash.
We have so many weird food hangups that are mostly just cultural fads and outdated habits, encouraged by celeb charlatans and a shitty food industry that wants to sell you cheap waste products like marg or ~spreadable butter~ or cereal or whatever. Find your vibe, fuck that noise
I'm going to get my cholesterol checked next GP visit just in case anything's changed, but I've had consistently great cholesterol all my life, so if it has I'll definitely be tweaking my lowcarb life.
