Now that we’re all cooled down we didn’t have a shit game. We had spells of the game where we dominated and spells where we didn’t. Unfortunately, in our best spell of play in the second half, psg scored against the run in play and we lost control.
The boys played well to try and fight back but Fred got sent off and we did well to threaten. There were some positives in this game but some negatives as well. Why take off cavani when we need a goal? Why not make subs earlier?
It’s not change for the sake of change it’s to introduce a fresh set of legs that could dominate the game to replace a more tired one. Let’s not use agendas right now and be clear. Mctominay had a great game. In fact he practically pocketed Neymar.
Imo we conceded two really cheap goals. The cbs had quite a decent game actually but lack pace. Individually, both maguire and lindelof are good defenders but need to be complimented with a pacey one to balance it out. Ole needs to play two cdms to protect them.
If we have the upper hand, we do not need this but against bigger games, we can refer to a 3-5-2. Especially when Shaw comes back, his solidity and pace in the back line will complement maguire and lindelof well and give license for telles and wan bissaka to go forward.
This system also makes ole feel better about playing only one dm, which enables Bruno and van de beek/pogba to attack and create. Lastly, in my opinion, Rashford and martial/Greenwood should start up top. In some games cavani can, but he is quite injury prone
Hopefully Rashford can improve his decision making on the ball but he always poses a threat on goal. For me, last season when martial and Rashford were competing for goals, martial seemed to have a fire fueling him. He played with more intensity and willingness.
He wanted to get on the ball. Unfortunately I haven’t really seen this from him lately. I call it “lazy” play. He doesn’t really run too much and is starting to miss chances. I hope he gets back to what he used to be and for those who understand me, thank you.
To end the message though, I want to say that the performance wasn’t absolutely shit and we can build from here. Hopefully we move and get the three points and beat Leipzig next week. If you read this, I love you
