Here's the hard truth: California will not be promoting Katie Porter to higher office anytime soon. We have a logjam situation at the Senate level and she's never won a statewide election.
"How bad could the logjam be?" folks from the East Coast and elsewhere say. Ok, let's start by taking a look at all the individuals who won a statewide primary and a statewide general in Governor Newsom's office:

@EleniForCA, @AlexPadilla4CA, @XavierBecerra, and @fionama. 1/2
"But that's state government!" you retort. "You need a federal representative to replace a federal representative as impressive as @KamalaHarris!"

Xavier Becerra was rep for CA-30 for 24 years and elected Caucus Chair, but fine.

Let's do House reps for argument sake.
Top 4 CA House reps in terms of seniority and leadership roles who could serve in the Senate: @AdamSchiff, @BLeeForCongress, @RepSpeier, and @RepJimCosta.

We have a very deep pool of talent, and a limited number of seats. Someone who is junior will not be allowed to cut the line
I have no idea who will be Kamala's replacement. Frankly, @KamalaHarris is irreplaceable.

But the rumors that @XavierBecerra might be selected as the Attorney General have thrown all prior understandings out of whack.
But understand this simple reality: neither Katie Porter nor Ro Khanna possess anywhere NEAR the seniority required to even be considered.

In fact, Ro Khanna is not qualified to be a United States Senator because he is a mendacious, hypocritical alt-right adjacent weirdo
That is to say nothing about our deep pool of MAYORAL TALENT as well, which boasts people like @LondonBreed, @ToddGloria, and @RobertGarcia
