SFF award eligibility season has started again and, as every year, I’m seeing some writers doubting themselves and wondering if they should write an eligibility post.

Let me tell you something:
DO IT
Please PLEASE P-L-E-A-S-E do it.

That was the short version. Now a thread:
Award eligibility season can be confusing and overwhelming, mostly to people who are new to the community or to members of an underrepresented group (I see you, BIPOC, LGBTQ+ folks, women, neurodiverse folks). But your words matter and deserve to be considered for awards.
Some of you may be feeling unworthy or not good enough. Some of you may be thinking “there’s no chance, why bother.” We’re in a very competitive field, sure, but you are part of this too. Let everyone hear/read your voices.
Don’t self reject.
Have faith in your work. Have faith in the editors who believed in that work.
You have something published this year? Damn! That’s a huge deal! Show the world that accomplishment.
This is a perfect time to find new readers, new communities, new inspiration.
How to know if your work is eligible for awards?
Start simple: your SFF work must have been first published in English during the previous calendar year (2020 for this season). Then consider the nuances of each award.
If you still have questions, ask the community. There are many amazing people out there willing to help because they want your eligibility post to reach as many people as possible. They want awards to be more diverse and welcoming.
For example @ac_wise and @Catrambo do the most amazing job by compiling lists of award eligibility posts 🤩
Don’t self reject.
You’ve already done something amazing by having that science fiction or fantasy work published. It deserves to be considered for awards.
Please PLEASE P-L-E-A-S-E, write that eligibility post.
