I’m also going to show you one reason why increased absentees directly contributed to better voter experiences at the polls. This is the Election Day turnout chart for Boone County (1/4) https://twitter.com/briannalennon/status/1334156907641270273
At the beginning of the day, we had lines at the polling place. They moved quickly and we didn’t receive complaints about them, but it’s still not ideal. (2/4)
Throughout the day, fewer and fewer voters visited the polls. As a result, lines were eliminated & voters could reliably stay socially distanced, even at our smaller locations. (3/4)
So how is this related to absentee voting? A full 30% of our overall turnout cast their ballot by mail or in our office in advance so they didn’t have to go to a poll that afternoon AND despite that E-Day decline, we still had a 1.6% increase in turnout compared to 2016 (4/4)
