Little CBA fun for you guys:
Zylan Cheatham and Josh Gray, waived over the last couple of days, were part of the Steven Adams trade. Both were free agents who were sign and traded to match salary in the trade.
This is unique in a few respects.

First, signing and trading players has a couple of stipulations the Thunder and Pelicans had to meet.
First, the contracts had to have at least the first year guaranteed.
Second, the contracts had to be at least three years long.

Cheatham and Gray are both borderline NBA players. May or may not have gotten a full contract. But because the Thunder and Pelicans needed to match salary, they likely received a minimum salary 3-year contract with two unguaranteed years.
And now instead of hanging out in free agency wondering if they'll get paid, they get a free year's ride without having to suit up for the Thunder.
Pelicans get their guy out of the trade.
Thunder are below the salary floor so they're spending that $ anyway.
Win-win-win.

This isn't something you're going to see very often because teams don't like spending money for guys that won't play (surprise surprise).
But the Thunder is required to spend a certain amount on players, and they're below it. No risk.

If the Thunder remain below the salary floor by the end of the season they will cut a check splitting the difference between team salary and the salary floor among all rostered players.
This doesn't happen often. Teams usually eat guys in the last year of a contract or something
