College of A&S at @CUBoulder announced today that 25 instructors would replace 50 tenured faculty members to cut salary expenses by $6.2 million. A majority of instructors teacher 4 courses a semester, double what most TT faculty teach for half the pay. This is bad.
We can't fix our budgets by relying on overburdened contingent instructors. Our students deserve instructors with lower teaching loads for higher quality education. We need a fair budget that wasn't forced onto us by our corporate administration.
A&S instructors were promised a 3-3 teaching load years ago, and it still has not happened. This move only further solidifies that our administration wants to maximize profit by cutting expenses on labor.
