Sharing your amazing International Day of Persons with Disabilities work on social media ? Don't forget to do it in an accessible way. Here's 4 things you can do to make your tweets accessible to more people and avoid an own goal #IDPWD2020 #PurpleLightUp #AccessibleTwitter 1/6
1. Add descriptions to your images- Twitter now offers you the ability to 'Add description' on every image you upload. It's easy to do - select the 'Add description' option when uploading and provide a short and snappy description of your picture. Simple. #AccessibleTwitter 2/6
2.Use camel case in your hashtags - Hashtags like #IDPWD2020 & #PurpleLightUp are a great way to get involved & seen but make sure you start each word in the hashtag with a capital letter so screenreader users can understand what you're saying #UseCamelCase #AccessibleTwitter 3/6
3. Always add captions to your videos-there are apps you can download that add automated captions to your videos e.g.ClipoMatic on iOS & AutoCap on Android. Adding captions makes your videos more accessible to everyone - lots watch videos with the sound off #AccessibleTwitter 4/6
4. Mind your emojis - emojis are a great way to communicate your excitement during #IDPWD2020 but please use them sparingly as they're really annoying for screenreader users who'll hear a description for each and every one of your string of emojis #AccessibleTwitter 5/6
