Simple can be good and effective storytelling, too. /1
Intrigue and mystery and general mind-fuckery are wonderful when they are done well, but so it simplicity.

Good roleplay and fun can make any world and story a full experience.

If you're like "I don't think I can write like these real famous people..." you don't have to. /2
Your story is good enough. I promise you it is*.
