Imagine your Y6 child has experienced permanent exclusion. You’ve had lots of negative feedback about them. They start their new school today. Their class teacher sends you this email after their first day:

Hi, just wanted to feedback on what a good first day R has had with us, I hope he enjoyed it too, he seemed to. In the morning, he settled quickly and tried his best in all learning, being successful each time.

I gave him plenty of opportunities across the day to spend time with children in a non pressurised environment where he could get to know them and form those friendships. He seems to have some friendships already!

Across the day he was polite and respectful and it feels like he really does belong with us.

Looking forward to tomorrow! R needs to make sure he comes in warm clothes tomorrow as we are in the woodland.

Enjoy your evening.

And that’s why I love working at our school with the amazing people I work with and for. And that’s why our kids and parents feel so valued and loved. And why they thrive.
