Congratulations to @DavinaCooper5 @FloraRenz and Emily Grabham, editors of the new special issue of @feministsatlaw on the Future of Legal Gender: Exploring the Feminist Politics of Decertification https://journals.kent.ac.uk/index.php/feministsatlaw/index /1
The papers in this volume have grown out of the @FutureGender research project. It engages with timely questions and identifies fault lines and differing views on how we think about gender and sex, particularly as feminists. /2
I know that it is exceedingly difficult to carve out a space for this research and these discussions among feminists, and the broader community about diverse understandings of gender, and I'm grateful for the @FutureGender team for their work in this regard. /3
My feminism is firmly and integrally trans-inclusive and I am concerned by efforts to mobilize my feminist and lesbian commitments/identities against an alleged threat from my trans and non-binary friends that I do not perceive. /4
I also think it's vital to dig into what we mean when we talk about gender. I've been influenced strongly by @DavinaCooper5's earlier work and her call to move beyond the dichotomy of gender as sex-based domination or gender as identity diversity. https://journals.kent.ac.uk/index.php/feministsatlaw/article/view/655 /5
In the spirit of another of Davina's earlier works, I seek to adopt a generous feminist politics in anxious times. Highly recommend: https://criticallegalthinking.com/2020/04/16/responding-to-gender-critical-feminism-on-gender-sex-and-a-generous-feminist-politics-in-anxious-times/ /6
And I look forward to digging into all the work in the @FutureGender special issue, including work by @ProfPeel @fletcher_ruth @AmbreenaManji @ShonaHunter @kathbrowne @sumi_madhok @VMunro_Law + more! What a rich resource for feminist legal studies. https://journals.kent.ac.uk/index.php/feministsatlaw/index /end
